So, a bit more than a week after putting in my order for the Stripe Terminal Verifone P400 Developer Kit, it arrives in the mail. I unbox it. Here’s what I get:
- The terminal itself. More detail in a moment.
- A test card. The card is both a chip card and a contractless card, but has no magnetic stripe
- A cable that plugs into the back of the terminal. Note: to install the cable, you need to slip off a cover on the back of the terminal, plug in the table, and slip the cover back on.
- A power block (that plugs into the cable)
- A short Ethernet cord
- A USB device with an ethernet jack. This is if you want to have the device use your computer’s network connection, rather than plugging it directly into your router. Perhaps more on this later. However, for production, it’s probably best to get directly with the router
- Various bits of documentation
Here’s a photograph of the terminal after it’s powered up and connected to internet.
